EARLY INTERVENTION ROADMAP

What to Expect During the Early Steps Process

STEP 01 · EARLY IDENTIFICATION (0–12 MONTHS)

Spotting Delays Early & Requesting Evaluation

Parents, pediatricians, or daycare providers can submit a referral to their local Early Steps regional center. No physician referral or medical diagnosis is required to initiate a free evaluation.

STEP 02 · EVALUATION & IFSP (WITHIN 45 DAYS)

Multidisciplinary Evaluation & Custom IFSP Plan

A team of specialists evaluates your child's communication, motor, cognitive, and adaptive skills. If eligible, an Individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) is developed with customized therapy goals and services.

STEP 03 · NATURAL ENVIRONMENT SERVICE DELIVERY (12–30 MONTHS)

Therapy Delivered in Your Home or Daycare

Therapists work with you and your child in daily natural routines. Parents receive active coaching so strategy practice continues between sessions.

STEP 04 · AGE 3 TRANSITION PLANNING (30–36 MONTHS)

Transition to School District ESE or Private Therapy

At least 90 days before your child's 3rd birthday, a transition conference is held to evaluate eligibility for local school district Pre-K ESE programs or transition to private therapy clinics.
